Dental health is often tied to medical health, yet dental insurance and access to dental care are often not available for many patients. Emergency physicians see these patients frequently and have few options to offer patients. A charitable group called Dental Lifeline now has a group of dentists who have agreed to provide free dental services for those needing extensive restorative work (not just a single extraction or root canal). Patients who could benefit from the program would be identified in the ED and complete an application. Part of the application (page 5) will need to be completed by a physician. The application is screened by the group’s social worker and referred to a geographically accessible volunteer dentist. Learn more.
Dental Lifeline Application (pdf) The medical triage form (page 5) should be completed by the healthcare provider and given to patients to turn in with their applications.
